JVC HR-C3
Description
The JVC HR-C3 is the first portable VCR to use the VHS-C (VHS Compact) cassette format, introduced by JVC in 1982. The VHS-C system used a smaller cassette that could be placed into a VHS tape adapter for playback in standard full-size VHS VCRs. The HR-C3 was designed to be paired with cameras such as the JVC GX-78E, and came with a wired remote, digital counter, headphone output, audio dub feature, and microphone input socket. At 2 kg with a power consumption of 4.8W, it was dramatically lighter than the full-size VHS portables that preceded it. New retail pricing was $850 for the HR-C3 recorder with wired remote, NB-P3U battery pack, carry pouch, shoulder pack, and tape, while the companion GZ-S3 camera with electronic viewfinder was priced at $895.
