JVC HR-4100 EG
Description
The JVC HR-4100 EG is the first portable VHS video cassette recorder, introduced by JVC in 1978. Designed to be used with the JVC GC-3350 color video camera, the HR-4100 was a large and heavy unit weighing 21 lbs (9.5 kg) — considerably heavier than the color reel-to-reel portables from just three years earlier, such as the JVC PV-4800E. The unit appears to have been derived from the HR-3300 tabletop VCR with the tuner section removed, resulting in a robust but bulky design. The "EG" suffix indicates a European specification. Despite its weight, the HR-4100 pioneered the concept of portable VHS recording and came with a dedicated leather carry case. A matching tuner timer (TU-41EG) and camera power supply (AA-P41EG) were available as accessories.
