JVC HR-2200 EK

Description

The JVC HR-2200 EK is a full-size VHS portable video cassette recorder introduced in 1981. It represents one of the last generations of separate full-size VHS portable video kits designed to be used with a standalone color camera. The "EK" suffix indicates a UK specification. Compared to the earlier JVC HR-4100 portable from 1978 which weighed 9.5 kg, the HR-2200 was significantly more compact and lighter at 5.2 kg — a substantial improvement in just two years. The unit used microswitches to control the transport mechanism. A matching tuner (TU-22EK) and camera power supply (AA-P22EG/EK) were available, and compatible cameras included the JVC G-71P color camera. By 1984, JVC would introduce the first VHS-C camcorder (GR-C1), and by 1985 Panasonic released the first full-size VHS camcorder (M1), making separate portable VCR/camera kits largely obsolete.
