Description
The Sony UVW-1800 is the top-of-the-line model in the UVW budget Betacam SP series, and the most popular machine in the range. It is an RS-422 edit-controllable recorder/player capable of frame-accurate insert and assemble editing on video, audio channels 1 and 2, and the time code track — making it suitable as both a player and recorder in studio editing environments.
The UVW-1800 records exclusively on metal particle tape in the Betacam SP format and can play back both metal particle (SP) and oxide (original Betacam) cassettes. It accepts L-size (90+ minutes) and S-size (30+ minutes) cassettes and provides two longitudinal audio channels with Dolby C noise reduction.
Uniquely among the UVW range, the UVW-1800 features both LTC time code input and output, enabling time code to be regenerated as necessary during editing. A built-in TBC with digital dropout compensation provides stable output, with remote adjustment available via the optional UVR-60 connected to the rear-panel 15-pin D-sub connector.
Video connectivity is comprehensive, with composite, component (via both 12-pin Sony DUB and 3× BNC connectors), and S-Video inputs and outputs. A built-in character generator superimposes timecode, VTR status, and diagnostic messages via Video Output 2. The compact 4U-height chassis at 19 kg and 85W makes it a space- and power-efficient alternative to the larger BVW and PVW series decks.
