Sony KV-34ST1
The Sony KV-34ST1 was part of Sony's "Kirara Basso" (キララ・バッソ) line of Super Trinitron televisions released in October 1991. The marketing campaign for this series famously featured Michael Jackson, including a special promotional release of his single "Black or White."
Features
The Kirara Basso series introduced Sony's "Super Trinitron" cathode ray tube technology, which offered a flatter screen than previous Trinitron models while maintaining excellent picture quality. The name "Kirara Basso" combined "Kirara" (きらら), suggesting sparkling, brilliant images, with "Basso" (Italian for "bass"), referring to the built-in speaker system's powerful low-frequency response.
Key features included:
- Super Trinitron tube with reduced screen curvature
- Integrated "Basso" speaker system with enhanced bass response
- Compact design for its screen size
Reception
The Kirara Basso series won the Good Design Award for Audio Visual Products in 1992. The series was noted for its compact, high-end design and served as Sony's response to competitor products like Matsushita's "Gao" television line.
