Description
The Sony BMC-500 was the last PAL Betamovie camcorder and the first in the series to use a CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor instead of a tube camera, resulting in a substantially redesigned and smaller unit. It also included an LCD tape counter and battery-backed clock with time and date superimposition on recordings. Despite being smaller than its predecessors, it weighed approximately the same at 2.49kg (without battery). Powered by the NP-11 rechargeable battery at 9.6V DC. Like all Betamovies, it could only record — playback required a separate Betamax deck.
