Description

The Sony VO-5850 is a professional U-matic Lo Band editing VTR designed as the master editing deck. This page documents the NTSC version. A PAL version (VO-5850P) was also produced for international markets.

The VO-5850 pairs with the VO-5800 as a feeder deck to form a two-machine edit suite when coupled with the RM-440 edit controller. The VO-5850 features precise editing capabilities including assemble and insert editing modes, with accuracy of ±2 frames. Notable features include Bidirex search operation at variable speeds from 1/30x to 5x normal (10x with KCS small cassettes), preroll for stable pictures at edit points, and compatibility with both KCA and KCS cassette formats. The unit can be rack-mounted in a standard 19" EIA rack.
