Description

The Sony VO-5630 is a U-matic Lo Band recorder/player classified as a "Type 5" unit, introduced around 1990. It offers easy-to-use recording and playback with full multi-standard support, recording in PAL or SECAM and playing back PAL, SECAM, and NTSC 4.43 colour tapes. Note that it plays NTSC 4.43 (a PAL-region conversion format) but does not support native NTSC 3.58 — this is a PAL-market machine and no separate NTSC version of the VO-5630 is known to have been produced. Automatic repeat is available for continuous playback looping, making it useful in presentation and exhibition environments.

The VO-5630 provides 330-line monochrome and 250-line colour horizontal resolution with a video signal-to-noise ratio better than 48dB monochrome and 45dB colour. Dimensions are 446 × 237 × 516 mm (WHD). The unit features dubbing input and output via 7-pin Hirose connectors for direct Y/C signal transfer, an external sync input, and a proprietary 8-pin TV connector for combined video and audio. Audio features include manual recording level with an audio limiter, microphone and line inputs, and line, headphone, and TV audio outputs. It is designed as a companion to the VP-5030 playback-only model.
