The Sony KV-29ST1 was part of Sony's "Kirara Basso" (キララ・バッソ) line of Super Trinitron televisions released in October 1991. This 29-inch model was the smaller companion to the flagship KV-34ST1.

Features

The KV-29ST1 featured Sony's "Super Trinitron" cathode ray tube technology, which achieved a flatter screen surface than previous Trinitron generations. The Super Trinitron overcame earlier technical challenges where flattening the screen would cause focus issues at the edges, allowing Sony to deliver sharp, high-resolution images across the entire display.

Key features included:

  • Super Trinitron tube with reduced screen curvature
  • Integrated "Basso" speaker system with enhanced bass response
  • Compact, space-efficient design

Marketing

The Kirara Basso series was marketed heavily with Michael Jackson as the celebrity endorser. Jackson's involvement included a special promotional release of his single "Black or White" in conjunction with the television launch. The advertising campaign emphasized both the brilliant picture quality ("Kirara" - きらら, meaning sparkling) and powerful sound reproduction ("Basso" - bass).
