Description

The Prime Image Excel 6.5 is a professional time base corrector and frame synchronizer product family, introduced in 1991. It was marketed as the "ultimate" TBC line in Prime Image's catalog, offering 6.5 MHz high bandwidth operation and full transcoding between composite, Y/C (S-Video), 3/4" DUB (Y/C DUB), and Y/R-Y/B-Y component signals.

A key differentiating feature is the built-in comb filter, which is front panel selectable and can be enabled or disabled at any time — including during an edit passage — without interrupting the signal. The unit provides 0–20 dB variable noise reduction in any operating mode, including transcoding, with no impairment to high-resolution characteristics.

All units pass vertical interval test signals (VITS) and vertical interval reference signals (VIRS) without degradation. Digital effects include posterization, sepia, mosaic, strobe, and freeze. Full TBC and synchronizer functions are accessible from the optional 60-R remote control unit.
