Description
The JVC AV-20D303 is a 20-inch CRT television released in 2002 as part of JVC's D-Series consumer line. This late-era D-Series model features the GE3 chassis with Toshiba TM8812C- jungle IC. Unlike larger models in the series, this model uniquely includes a headphone jack - when headphones are connected, the internal speakers are automatically muted.
Technical Details
Chassis
The AV-20D303 uses the GE3 chassis, featuring the Toshiba TM8812C- jungle IC. This late-era chassis represents a cost-reduced design and cannot be RGB modded - the component video inputs provide near-RGB quality for retro gaming.
Unlike the earlier GE chassis, the GE3 lacks the E/W circuit, resulting in some barrel distortion that cannot be corrected. The 3-line digital comb filter provides quality composite and S-Video processing.
Tube
The AV-20D303 uses a 20" 4:3 CRT. The tube brand can be identified by the letter beside the serial number on the back of the set:
- R = RCA/Thomson (A51KSV series)
- S = Samsung
- B = Goldstar/LG
Audio
The AV-20D303 uses a 1.2W × 2 stereo power amplifier with BBE Sound Enhancement and Hyper-Surround processing. The included headphone jack automatically mutes internal speakers when in use.
Red Push Fix
Late-era D-Series (Dx03) 2002 models may exhibit oversaturated reds. To correct this in the service menu:
- Navigate to NTSC MAT → Set to 000
(Note: 2003-2004 Dx03/Dx04/Dx05 models with later revisions have no known red push fix)
Setup Tips
- If component video appears in black and white, enable "V2 Component-In" in setup menu
- Default sharpness is typically too high - adjust in user menu for optimal picture
- To disable vertical edge enhancement, set LYC02 to zero in service menu (3L Y/C sub-menu)
- Front Input 3 jacks are under the front panel door
