Description
The Digital Processing Systems DPS-210 is a universal video signal transcoder designed for bi-directional format conversion between S-Video, U-matic DUB, component (Betacam/MII), and analog RGB video signals. The unit also provides an NTSC composite monitoring output, though it cannot decode composite video as an input.
The DPS-210 can be used as an interface between RGB computer graphics or animation systems and Betacam or MII recorders. It also serves as a component I/O device for non-linear editing systems. Unlike some transcoders, the DPS-210 can be configured to transcode in either direction, and can provide format transcoding and level matching for interformat tape duplication.
The rear panel provides Hirose 7-pin DUB connectors for Y/C-688 input and output, Mini-DIN-4 connectors for Y/C-3.58 (S-Video) input and output, and BNC connectors for the component/RGB connections (Y/G, R-Y/R, B-Y/B, Sync) and the NTSC composite monitoring output. The Y/G, R-Y/R, and B-Y/B connectors support both component (Betacam and MII) and RGB modes. Front panel level controls with a preset switch provide signal adjustment, and a front panel NTSC monitoring point allows signal verification.
The DPS-210 was also sold as the Panasonic UTP-2 (a re-badged version of the same unit). It was priced at $1,199.95 MSRP.
The unit is commonly used in archival and preservation workflows for U-matic transfers, where it converts the DUB signal from U-matic decks to S-Video for capture.
