Manufactured by the Victor Company of Japan (JVC) in Tokyo, the HR-3300 was introduced in 1976 and became the model that defined the VHS format. It was widely available for sale or rental and was noted for being remarkably compact compared to other VHS and Betamax models of the era, which contributed to its popularity. The HR-3300 was produced in large quantities and was cloned by several manufacturers for different markets, including Ferguson and Baird in the United Kingdom.
