Sony EDV-7500
Description
The Sony EDV-7500 was the mid-range ED Beta VCR for the United States market, released in 1988. Based on the Japanese EDV-7000, it was the more affordable of the two ED Beta decks sold in the US alongside the flagship EDV-9500.
The EDV-7500 included the RMT-169 infrared remote control. Among Beta enthusiasts who have owned multiple high-end decks, the EDV-7500 is frequently cited as producing superior picture quality compared to even the more expensive SuperBeta models like the SL-HF900 and SL-HF2100.
Only two ED Beta VCR models were officially sold in the United States — the EDV-7500 and the EDV-9500. The Japanese-only EDV-5000, EDV-6000, and EDV-8000 have become sought-after imports among collectors. The Canadian equivalent of this deck was the EDV-7300.
As with all North American Beta equipment, the EDV-7500 used the 7.5 IRE setup level, which is an important consideration when using Japanese ED Beta decks (which use 0 IRE) with North American capture equipment.
