Sony EDV-9500
Description
The Sony EDV-9500 was the top-of-the-line ED Beta VCR for the United States market, released in 1988. It was based on the Japanese EDV-9000 and was the most capable editing deck in the North American consumer Beta lineup, rivaling much more expensive U-matic setups for editing accuracy and features.
Despite its impressive capabilities, the EDV-9500 did not achieve commercial success due to its lack of timecode support and other professional features that would have made it viable for true broadcast production work. Sony marketed the ED Beta line to "semiprofessional" users, or "prosumers."
The EDV-9500 featured a Control-L (LANC) socket on the rear panel that accepted the optional RMR-151 IR receiver for wireless remote control, and included the RMT-164 infrared remote. The deck used the 7.5 IRE setup level standard for North American NTSC, as opposed to the 0 IRE level used by its Japanese counterpart.
The Canadian version of this deck was the EDV-9300, which was functionally identical but configured for the Canadian market.
