Description
The Digital Processing Systems DPS-470 Digital Component AV Synchronizer is a 10-bit video synchronizer featuring serial digital and analog component, composite, and Y/C inputs and outputs. The DPS-470 was the direct successor to the DPS-465, adding an internal four-channel digital audio synchronizer that quickly made it the top choice of networks, broadcasters, and mobile operators worldwide.
The unit was available in two configurations: video-only (DPS-470) and audio/video (DPS-470AV). Both configurations provide an ideal bridge between analog video signals (such as satellite and microwave feeds) and digital production facilities.
Four video input and output formats are provided: Serial Digital Video (SDI), Component Analog Video (Betacam/MII), Y/C (S-VHS/Hi-8), and Composite Video. The 10-bit ITU-R-601 component processing and adaptive comb filter decoder provide maximum signal transparency. A built-in auto-sensing TBC circuit enables seamless mode switching between direct color and heterodyne sources such as camcorders.
The DPS-470AV variant includes a four-channel digital audio synchronizer with support for analog balanced/unbalanced audio, AES/EBU digital audio, and SDI embedded audio. Audio can be de-embedded from the SDI input and re-embedded into the SDI output stream.
The DPS-470 can be controlled via the RC-4000 multi-channel remote control system using a single DCN coax connection, with support for controlling over 100 DPS synchronizer or TBC channels from a single RC-4000.
Product Line Evolution
The DPS-470 was part of Digital Processing Systems' progression of digital synchronizers:
- DPS-1 - Original DPS product
- DPS-465 - First multi-format serial digital transcoding synchronizer
- DPS-470 - Added four-channel digital audio synchronizer
- DPS-475 - Multi-function NTSC synchronizer with enhanced features
- DPS-575 - Dual standard PAL/NTSC auto-switching synchronizer
