Description
The JVC AV-36D800 is a 36-inch consumer CRT television released in 1999 as part of JVC's popular D-Series line. This is the flagship D-Series model, using the early GR2 chassis with the JVC JCC1007A jungle IC, and including additional features like TV Guide Plus and VCR Plus+ built-in.
Unlike other 36" D-Series models, the AV-36D800 shares the same case design as older large JVC televisions rather than the standard D-Series case. It notably uses the RCA A90AFX15X tube with an invar shadow mask, which is rare for RCA tubes and provides excellent thermal stability.
Technical Details
Chassis
The AV-36D800 uses the GR2 chassis, featuring the JVC JCC1007A jungle IC. This early-era chassis is RGB moddable and has minimal raster bloom compared to later D-Series chassis.
The 2-line digital comb filter provides quality composite and S-Video processing. This is the original D-Series comb filter before the upgrade to 3-line in 2001 models.
Premium Features
The D800 series is distinguished from the D500/D200 by:
- TV Guide Plus - On-screen program guide
- VCR Plus+ - One-touch recording programming
Tube
Uses the RCA A90AFX15X tube with an invar shadow mask. This is a rare feature for RCA tubes and provides:
- Superior thermal stability
- Reduced geometry drift during warmup
- Better color consistency
This makes the AV-36D800 particularly desirable among collectors.
Red Push Fix
Early-era D-Series (Dx00) may exhibit oversaturated reds. To correct this in the service menu:
- Navigate to DEMO AX RY → Set to 0
- Navigate to CMP D AX R → Set to 0
