Description

The Sony SL-HF77 was the Super Beta version of the SL-HF150, combining Super Beta's improved picture quality with Hi-Fi stereo sound. It followed the slim design style of the SL-F30/60 series, with a lower profile than the SL-HF100 and up/down channel selection replacing individual channel buttons. A key feature was the sound-only recording mode which disabled the video dropout compensator, enabling use with a PCM encoder for higher-than-CD quality digital stereo audio. A Karaoke variant (SL-HF77K) was also produced. The SL-HF77 was a PAL-market model; the closest NTSC equivalent was the American SL-HF550 (1985), which also combined Super Beta with Hi-Fi stereo.
