Description
The JVC AV-27D302 is a 27-inch CRT television from JVC's D-Series lineup, released in 2001. This middle-era D-Series model features the GE chassis with Toshiba TB1253AN jungle IC, 3-line digital comb filter, and component video input. Like other Dx02 models, it uses a 1.2W mono power amplifier rather than the 5W stereo amp found in earlier D-Series.
Design
The D-Series features side-mounted speakers, giving it a wider footprint with better audio separation than the 30 Series. The AV-27D302 was available in black cabinet finish, transitioning to silver with later Dx03 models.
Technical Details
Chassis
The AV-27D302 uses the GE chassis, featuring the Toshiba TB1253AN jungle IC. This middle-era chassis is RGB moddable, supporting sync-on-luma (external sync unnecessary) with RGB injection at the jungle. The 3-line digital comb filter provides improved composite and S-Video processing over the earlier 2-line filter in Dx00/Dx01 models.
Tube Identification
Starting with the 2001 model year, JVC began using tubes from multiple manufacturers. The tube brand can be identified by the letter beside the serial number on the back of the set:
- R = RCA/Thomson (A68ADT25X)
- S = Samsung (A68QDN891X)
- B = Goldstar/LG
- M = Matsushita/Panasonic
- H = Hitachi
- Y = Toshiba
Audio
The AV-27D302 uses a 1.2W mono power amplifier, unlike the 5W stereo amp in the early-era 27" D-Series models (AV-27D200, AV-27D201). Features BBE Sound Enhancement processing.
PAL Video Enable
Like other middle-era D-Series, PAL video signal display can be enabled through the service menu: Navigate to CD section → Set V 48HZ to 1 (or 2 for 576i).
Red Push Fix
Middle-era D-Series (Dx02) models may exhibit oversaturated reds (red push). To correct this in the service menu:
- Navigate to R Y GAIN → Set to 000
- Navigate to CD MATRIX → Set to 000
- Navigate to CMP R Y GAIN → Set to 000
- Navigate to CMP CD MATRIX → Set to 000
