Description

Panasonic DIGA combination DVD recorder and VHS video cassette recorder for the North American market. The DMR-ES30VS is the silver-finish version of the DMR-ES30V. The Panasonic DMR-ES30VS is a combination DVD recorder and VHS video cassette recorder from Panasonic's DIGA line, sold in North America. It is the silver-finish version of the DMR-ES30V and is functionally identical.

The disc side records to DVD-RAM in DVD Video Recording format and to DVD-R and DVD-RW in DVD-Video format, encoding MPEG-2 in four modes: XP at roughly 10 Mbps for 60 minutes on a 4.7 GB disc, SP at 5 Mbps for 120 minutes, LP at 2.5 Mbps for 240 minutes and EP at 1.7 or 1.2 Mbps for 360 or 480 minutes. Playback additionally covers +R, +RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Video CD and CD-Audio. Horizontal resolution is quoted at more than 500 lines in XP, SP and LP, and more than 250 lines in EP.

The tape side is a standard VHS deck with FM Hi-Fi audio: four helical scan video heads, two helical scan FM audio heads and one fixed normal-audio head, recording at SP (33.35 mm/s, 120 minutes on T-120) and EP (11.12 mm/s, 360 minutes). Jet Rewind returns a T-120 in about 36 seconds against 54 seconds for a normal rewind.

A single NTSC-M tuner is shared between the DVD and VHS sections, covering VHF 2–13, UHF 14–69 and the cable plan, with a built-in RF converter output on channel 3 or 4.

The unit runs from 120 V at 50/60 Hz and draws 31 W in use, falling to about 4 W in normal standby (2 W in power-save) or about 10 W in quick-start standby. It measures 430 × 89 × 352 mm and weighs 5.8 kg.
