Sony EDV-8000
Description
The Sony EDV-8000 was a mid-range ED Beta VCR released in 1989 at a retail price of ¥220,000. It featured a clean, minimalist front panel design with only the power and eject buttons visible — all other controls were hidden behind an inner lid.
Building on the EDV-7000's Shuttle Edit concept, the EDV-8000 replaced the lever-style control with a rotary dial whose tilt angle determined playback speed, making it far more practical for editing work. The deck also added a small preview screen for monitoring edit points, significantly improving the editing workflow.
Body color is silver (even thousands). The EDV-8000 was sold exclusively in Japan and had no direct North American equivalent. It was the second-highest model in the ED Beta lineup after the EDV-9000.
