Description

The Sony VO-5800 is a professional U-matic Lo Band recorder/player designed as a feeder (slave) deck for editing applications. This page documents the NTSC version. A PAL version (VO-5800P) was also produced for international markets.

The VO-5800 pairs with the VO-5850 master editing VTR to form a two-machine edit suite when used with the RM-440 edit controller. Considered the first of the "high-end industrial" U-matic VTRs, the VO-5800 offers extensive jog/shuttle search capabilities with variable speed playback from 1/30x to 5x normal speed (10x with KCS small cassettes), pause with still picture, and programmed operation that retains memory for up to three days. The unit operates on universal voltage (110–240V) and can be rack-mounted in a standard 19" EIA rack.
