Description

The Sony UVW-1200 is a basic Betacam SP player, the entry-level model in Sony's UVW budget series introduced in the mid-1990s. It is designed as a simple, user-friendly playback deck for viewing, logging, and dubbing Betacam and Betacam SP content.

The UVW-1200 plays both metal particle (Betacam SP) and oxide (Betacam) cassettes in L-size (90+ minutes) and S-size (30 minutes) formats. It provides two longitudinal audio channels with Dolby C noise reduction. A built-in TBC with digital dropout compensation ensures stable output.

Video outputs include composite (2x BNC), RGB/component (3x BNC, switchable between Y/R-Y/B-Y and RGB with sync on green), and S-Video (Mini-DIN-4). A built-in character generator can superimpose timecode and operational data via Video Output 2.

The UVW-1200 uses an RS-232C interface (25-pin D-sub) rather than the RS-422 serial control found on the higher-end BVW and PVW series. Optional jog/shuttle control is available via the SVRM-100A search remote. The compact 4U-height chassis weighs only 17.5 kg, making it significantly lighter and more energy-efficient than the BVW-series decks.
