Context
The KW-28HDF7 was one of seven WEGA models launched in 1997, which marked Sony's transition to the WEGA brand for its premium television line. The WEGA series represented Sony's response to increasing competition after the basic Trinitron patent expired in 1996, using the combination of flat-screen technology and advanced signal processing to maintain market leadership.
The WEGA brand continued until 2005 when Sony transitioned to the BRAVIA name for its LCD televisions, though CRT models retained the WEGA name until production ended in 2007.
