The Sun GDM-5410 is a 21-inch FD Trinitron colour computer display supplied by Sun Microsystems for its workstations. The GDM designation and the flat Trinitron tube identify it as a Sony-built display; Sun's own owner's manual gives the production model name as "GDM-5410 (19.8" viewing image)".[1]
The tube measures 21 inches diagonally with 90-degree deflection and a 0.24 mm aperture grille pitch, presenting a viewable image of approximately 403.8 × 302.2 mm — a 19.8-inch viewable diagonal.[1] The standard image area is approximately 388 × 291 mm or 364 × 291 mm depending on mode, and the recommended resolution is 1280 × 1024.[1]
Deflection frequency covers 30–121 kHz horizontally and 48–160 Hz vertically, making it a wide-range multisync display.[1] Sony specifies recommended timing conditions of a horizontal sync width of at least 4.8% of total horizontal time or 0.8 µs (whichever is larger), horizontal blanking of at least 2.3 µs and vertical blanking of at least 450 µs.[1]

Two computers can be connected at once and selected with a front-panel input button: video input 1 is a Sun 13W3 connector and video input 2 an HD15, both taking RGB video at 0.700 Vp-p positive with sync.[1]
The display supports Plug and Play through DDC1, DDC2B and DDC2Bi, and implements the VESA Generalized Timing Formula — when the incoming signal is GTF-compliant the monitor sizes the image optimally by itself.[1] An ASC (auto sizing and centering) button performs the same job for non-GTF sources, and on-screen menus cover brightness and contrast, size and centering, geometry, convergence and colour, in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Russian and Japanese.[1]
The power supply is autoranging over 100–240 V at 50–60 Hz, drawing about 145 W, so the monitor adapts itself to local mains provided the correct cord is used.[1] The screen is degaussed for about two seconds at power-on, and a power-saving mode is signalled by the power indicator flashing green and amber or lighting amber.[1] The display carries TCO'99 environmental approval.[1]
