Description
The Prime Image TBC·SYNC+ is a professional full-frame digital time base corrector and frame synchronizer for NTSC composite video. It was developed for use with VCRs in ENG, broadcast, and post-production environments, correcting time base errors and synchronizing non-synchronous video signals for mixing, editing, or broadcast.
The unit digitizes incoming composite video into its luma and chroma components at 8-bit precision — at greater than 8 MHz for luma and greater than 4 MHz for chroma — storing up to 525 horizontal lines in RAM and reading data back at a stable clock rate. The read clock is generated by a VCO locked either to an external genlock reference or to an internal sync generator. After reconstruction, the output video has a residual time base error of ±15 ns and is RS-170A compatible when genlocked.
A full-frame memory enables freeze frame and freeze field (field 1 or field 2) functions. Variable frame and field strobe modes allow adjustable-rate strobing. The Drop-Out Corrector (DOC) monitors the RF output of the connected VCR; when a dropout is detected, the affected line is replaced with data from the previous line. The unit features auto freeze when a "bad field" condition is detected (loss of horizontal sync, missing or incorrect vertical sync, or tape head switch events), with individual auto freeze functions defeatable via internal DIP switches.
Digital effects — posterization, sepia, and mosaic — are accessible via pull-out front panel knobs and can be combined with freeze and strobe. Processing amplifier controls for video level, setup level, chroma, and hue are also pull-out/push-in knobs. The unit fits a single rack unit (1U) in a standard 19-inch rack.
