Description
The Panasonic DMR-ES15 is a consumer DVD-RAM/DVD-R recorder widely used in the video archival community as a budget passthrough time base corrector for VHS digitization. While its passthrough jitter correction is considered slightly weaker than the Panasonic DMR-ES10, the DMR-ES15 remains a popular and effective choice for stabilizing analog video signals during digitization.[1]
The Canadian variant of this model is the DMR-ES16, which is functionally identical to the DMR-ES15.

Recommended Passthrough Settings (NTSC)
The following settings are recommended for optimal passthrough TBC performance on NTSC units, based on extensive community testing:[1]
Output connection: Use S-Video output to the capture device. Composite (CVBS) output should never be used as it produces inferior results.
Black Level Control (Setup → Video): Set Input Level to Lighter and Output Level (Composite/S-Video) to Darker. Every other combination causes banding artifacts, and Darker–Darker also crushes dark detail.
Line-In NR (switch to a line/AV input, then Display → Video): Set to Off to disable the noise reduction filter.
Blue Background (Setup → Display): Set to Off to show very weak signals and unrecorded tape portions as-is.
Off Timer (Setup → Setup): Set to Off to prevent automatic power-down.
