Sony BVU-150
Description
The Sony BVU-150 is a portable SP U-matic field recorder intended for acquisition use. This page documents the PAL version (BVU-150P). An NTSC version (BVU-150, without the P suffix) was also produced for the North American market.
Though larger and heavier than the VO-6800, the BVU-150 incorporates Sony's Superior Performance (SP) technology for higher picture quality and a Dolby C noise reduction system for improved audio. Both SP benefits depend on using Sony's SP video cassettes, though conventional High Band and Lo Band cassettes are also supported. The unit features a magnesium die-cast alloy frame for a lightweight yet rugged design, video confidence heads for simultaneous playback during recording, and improved Y/C separator circuitry. The BVU-150 provides 300-line horizontal resolution in SP mode and 260 lines in conventional mode. Audio inputs include a microphone input and balanced XLR line input at +4dB, with balanced line output and earphone monitoring. The unit operates on 11–14V DC from NP-series batteries, with optional AC operation via the AC-500 adaptor. Recording time is up to 20 minutes with KSP-20 cassettes (KCS small-format only). Optional accessories include the BKU-150 time code generator and RM-680 remote control.
