Sony VO-9600
Description
The Sony VO-9600 is a U-matic recorder/player classified as a "Type 9" unit. This page documents the PAL version (VO-9600P). An NTSC version (VO-9600, without the P suffix) was also produced for the North American and Japanese markets, with identical features adapted for the EIA/NTSC standard.
The VO-9600 incorporates SP (Superior Performance) technology and is capable of recording and playing back in SP, High Band, and standard U-matic modes. It provides 300-line horizontal resolution in SP mode, 260 lines in High Band, and 250 lines in Lo Band. Frame Code, an absolute address code system, permits accurate search and sophisticated programmed operation including external computer control. Audio performance is enhanced by a Dolby C noise reduction system with automatic SP detection, achieving better than 52dB signal-to-noise ratio in SP mode. The VO-9600 features dubbing input and output via 7-pin Hirose connectors, balanced XLR line audio at +4dBm, microphone input, and a headphone output. It fits a standard 19" EIA rack at 4 units high.
