Description

The Digital Processing Systems DPS-465 was the industry's first multi-format serial digital transcoding synchronizer. Introduced as broadcasters began building new digital facilities, the DPS-465 made it easy and economical to interface a wide variety of analog and digital video sources to a digital plant.

The unit functions as both a transcoder and time base corrector, capable of converting between composite NTSC, component analog video (CAV/Betacam), S-Video (Y/C), and serial digital video (SDI). All outputs provide properly synchronized, genlocked signals regardless of input source. The DPS-465 does not include audio processing or RGB output capabilities.

Front panel controls allow selection of input source (composite, S-Video, component, or SDI) and adjustment of proc amp parameters. The unit can operate in TBC mode for heterodyne sources or synchronizer mode for direct color signals.

The DPS-465 was succeeded by the DPS-470, which incorporated an internal four-channel digital audio synchronizer, and later by the DPS-475 and DPS-575 multi-function synchronizers.

Product Line Evolution

The DPS-465 was part of Digital Processing Systems' progression of digital synchronizers:

  • DPS-1 - Original DPS product (introduced over 25 years prior to DPS-475/575)
  • DPS-465 - First multi-format serial digital transcoding synchronizer
  • DPS-470 - Added four-channel digital audio synchronizer
  • DPS-475 - Multi-function NTSC synchronizer with enhanced features
  • DPS-575 - Dual standard PAL/NTSC auto-switching synchronizer
