Overview
The JVC AV-27D503 is a 27" consumer CRT television released in 2002 as part of JVC's D-Series line. This late-era D-Series model uses the GE3 chassis with the Toshiba TM8812C- jungle IC.
The AV-27D503 features component video input, making it popular for retro gaming. However, unlike earlier D-Series models, this 2002 revision cannot be RGB modded due to the different jungle chip architecture.
Tube Identification
The tube brand can be identified by the letter beside the serial number on the model tag:
- R - RCA/Thomson (A68ADT25X) - "bubble curve" tube, considered less desirable
- S - Samsung (A68QDN891X) - generally preferred by enthusiasts
The Samsung tube is considered superior to the RCA ADT-family tube.
Technical Notes
- Uses late-era D-Series chassis (Dx03) with Toshiba TM8812C- jungle
- Cannot be RGB modded (unlike earlier D-Series)
- 3-line comb filter for improved composite video quality
- 1.2W speakers per channel (cost reduction from earlier models)
- 27" models from 2001 onwards lack E/W circuit for full geometry adjustment
Service Menu - Red Push Fix
For 2002-2003 D-Series models, red push can be disabled via the service menu:
- Set NTSC MAT to "000"
