The Sony PVM-14M2U is a 14-inch multi-standard professional video monitor from Sony's M-series, introduced in 1997.[1] It is the 600-line, P-22 phosphor member of a family documented in one service manual alongside the higher-grade PVM-14M4U (800 lines, SMPTE-C phosphor) and the 20-inch PVM-20M2U and PVM-20M4U, plus their 14M2E/14M4E European and 14M2A/14M4A export siblings.[2]
The picture tube is a Trinitron (Sony part M34KBE11X) with a 0.25 mm aperture grille pitch and 90-degree deflection.[1] Sony specifies convergence at 0.4 mm typical in the central area and 0.5 mm at the periphery, high-voltage regulation of 3.5 %, and raster size stability of 1.0 % horizontal and 1.5 % vertical.[2] Video bandwidth is 10 MHz ±3 dB on both the luminance and RGB paths.[2] Colour system selection covers NTSC, PAL, SECAM and NTSC 4.43.[2]
Colour temperature offers D65 and D93 presets plus a USER setting adjustable from 3200 K to 10000 K, factory set to D65.[2] Normal scan overscans the effective screen area by 7 %, and underscan mode pulls back to 5 % underscan.[2]
Features
Every video input is a loop-through pair with automatic 75-ohm termination — the termination releases itself as soon as a cable is plugged into the matching output, so no terminators or switches are involved.[2] The RGB/COMPONENT BNC trio accepts analog RGB with sync on green at 0.3 Vp-p, or R-Y/Y/B-Y component, and a separate EXT SYNC BNC takes a 4 Vp-p composite sync reference.[2]
A 20-pin REMOTE connector carries tally and parallel remote control.[2] An optional SDI board adds a serial digital input and raises consumption from 90 W to 99 W.[2] Audio is a single 0.8 W mono speaker.[2]
The M-series is known for power-supply failures and deflection capacitor problems; several board revisions exist, with later units using improved parts.[1]
