The Sony PVM-1390 is a 13-inch NTSC professional video monitor built around Sony's Microblack Trinitron picture tube. The manual quotes a 13-inch picture measured diagonally on a 14-inch tube, with 90-degree deflection and a 0.37 mm aperture grille pitch.[1]
Resolution is 450 TV lines from both the composite and the separate (Y/C) video inputs, and 640 × 200 dots — about 2,000 characters — from the RGB input.[1] Frequency response is 10 MHz (−3 dB) on RGB and 5 MHz (−3 dB) on composite and separate video. Horizontal linearity is better than ±8% and vertical linearity better than ±7%, with a line pull range of ±500 Hz horizontally and −8 Hz vertically and less than 10% overscan.[1]
Features
The monitor's distinguishing feature is its CMPTR input, a 25-pin D-sub multi connector that accepts either analog or digital RGB from a microcomputer.[1] A mode pin selects between the two: in the high state the red, green and blue pins take analog video — 0.7 Vp-p into 75 ohms without sync, or 1 Vp-p with sync on green — and the sync pin takes 1 Vp-p composite sync; in the low state all become TTL-level digital signals, with a further pin choosing between IBM-style signalling and 3-bit TTL.[1] A rear SYNC ON GREEN switch configures the analog mode, and an audio-select pin on the connector chooses between audio arriving on pin 13 and audio from the LINE A/LINE B jacks or the VTR connector.[1]
A front-panel CMPTR button brings the computer input in, and because it lights alongside the previously selected LINE A or LINE B indicator, the computer picture can be superimposed over a video source rather than simply replacing it.[1] The COLOR and HUE controls have no effect on the CMPTR source.[1]
Video sources otherwise arrive on the LINE A and LINE B composite BNCs with loop-through outputs, a 4-pin mini-DIN S VIDEO connector taking Y at 1 Vp-p and C at 0.286 Vp-p burst into 75 ohms, and an 8-pin VTR connector.[1] Rear V HOLD and H CENT controls are provided alongside the front-panel PICTURE, BRIGHT, COLOR, HUE and VOLUME controls. The internal speaker is driven at 500 mW.[1]
