The Sony KD-34XBR970 is a 34-inch widescreen HD FD Trinitron television, the flagship of Sony's XBR direct-view WEGA line and one of the largest and heaviest consumer CRT sets ever sold in North America.[1]

Sony quotes a visible screen size of 34 inches (863.6 mm) measured diagonally on an actual 36-inch (914.4 mm) CRT.[1] The set displays 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i, and weighs 86.3 kg (190 lb) in a cabinet measuring 994 × 654 × 604 mm (W × H × D). Power consumption is 240 W in use from a 120 V, 60 Hz supply.[1]

The tuner section is triple: analog NTSC to the American TV Standard, ATSC-compliant 8VSB for digital terrestrial, and QAM on cable to ANSI/SCTE 07 2000. Channel coverage runs 2–69 for terrestrial analog and digital, 1–125 for analog cable and 1–135 for digital cable, all through a single 75-ohm external VHF/UHF terminal.[1]

Features

Connectivity is extensive for a CRT television. There are three composite video inputs and three S-Video inputs — one of each on the front panel — six audio inputs in total, two YPbPr component video inputs, and one HDMI input.[1] Composite video is 1 Vp-p into 75 ohms unbalanced with negative sync; S-Video takes Y at 1 Vp-p and C at 0.286 Vp-p burst into 75 ohms; component takes Y at 1.0 Vp-p with negative sync and PB/PR at 0.7 Vp-p, all into 75 ohms. Audio inputs are 500 mV RMS at 100% modulation into 47 kilohms.[1]

On the output side there is one switchable variable/fixed audio output delivering more than 408 mV RMS into 2 kilohms, and a coaxial digital audio output carrying PCM or Dolby Digital. Two-channel linear PCM is supported at 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz in 16, 20 and 24 bits.[1]

Sound is stereo at 10 W per channel. The set ships with the RM-YD007 remote control and two AA batteries.[1]
