DV devices includes all AV equipment in the DV (Digital Video) format family: MiniDV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, and HDV.

DV Format Variants

• MiniDV — Consumer digital video format introduced in 1995, widely used in prosumer and professional camcorders
• DVCAM — Sony's professional variant with locked audio and 15μm track pitch (vs 10μm for MiniDV)
• DVCPRO (also known as DV Pro) — Panasonic's professional variant with 18μm track pitch and metal particle tape
• HDV — High definition recording on MiniDV tapes using MPEG-2 compression

Notes

DV formats share the same basic DV codec but differ in tape formulation, track pitch, and audio handling. Most DV decks can play back tapes recorded in other DV variants, though recording compatibility varies. The MiniDV cassette became the de facto standard for prosumer video production in the late 1990s and 2000s.
