The Sony PVM-1340 is a 13-inch NTSC Trinitron professional video monitor and the entry-level member of a four-model family — the PVM-1340, PVM-1341, PVM-1342Q and PVM-1344Q — sharing one cabinet, one chassis platform and one operating manual.

Where the PVM-1342Q and PVM-1344Q carry the Super Fine Pitch Trinitron tube with SMPTE-C phosphors, the PVM-1340 uses a black-tinted Trinitron tube with standard P-22 phosphors. Video bandwidth is more than 7 MHz (−3 dB) on the composite line inputs, more than 8 MHz on Y/C and more than 9 MHz on analog RGB; colour temperature is selectable between 6,500 K and 9,300 K (+8 MPCD) from a rear-panel COLOR TEMP switch. Sync is fixed-frequency, with an AFC time constant of 1 ms and a line pull range of ±500 Hz horizontally and 8 Hz vertically.

Features

The PVM-1340 is the most sparsely equipped of the four. It has the family's LINE A and LINE B composite inputs with loop-through, the 4-pin Y/C input and the 8-pin VTR connector, but its analog RGB connection is input-only — terminated at a fixed 75 ohms with no loop-through output — and it omits the EXT SYNC connectors, the CTRL S remote jacks, the DIGITAL RGB connector and the underscan mode found on its siblings. Front-panel controls cover aperture, brightness, chroma, phase, contrast and volume, along with input selection and a BLUE ONLY button for chroma and phase adjustment.

A comb filter engages on NTSC composite signals to raise resolution, and an automatic white balance circuit compensates for beam and secular distortion of the tube so that the same white is reproduced over the monitor's life. Audio is reproduced through a single mono speaker rated at 0.6 W maximum.
