Description

The Sony BVU-950 is a U-matic SP editing VTR that pioneered several features which later became standard on the Betacam format. It incorporates SP technology for higher picture quality and dubbing capability while remaining compatible with earlier High Band U-matics. The BVU-950 is notable for supporting a plug-in wide window time base corrector (BKU-903) and time code generator/reader (BKU-905) options. It was one of the first VTRs to use a search dial for setting and displaying time code, diagnostics, VTR functions, and more. The unit provides 300-line horizontal resolution in SP mode and 260 lines in conventional mode, with video signal-to-noise ratio better than 46dB (SP colour). Audio performance is improved by Dolby C noise reduction with automatic detection and activation on SP tape playback, achieving better than 52dB signal-to-noise ratio. The BVU-950 includes balanced line audio at +4dBm and reference video input for genlock operation.
