JVC 3241

The JVC 3241 is the clock-radio version of JVC's Videosphere — the spherical, space-helmet portable television introduced in 1970. Mechanically it is the same 9-inch black-and-white set as the JVC 3240, but where the 3240 sits on a plain plinth, the 3241 shipped from the factory on an integrated base housing an alarm clock, which JVC marketed as a "TV Combi with Alarm Clock".[1]
The distinction matters when identifying a set: a Videosphere with a clock in its base is normally a 3241. A 3240 could also be fitted with a clock by buying the optional TS245 digital clock base separately, but that accessory was comparatively rare.[2]
Like the rest of the line the 3241 is a mains-or-12 V set — it runs from the household supply or from a car battery — drawing about 21 W, and it can be hung from a ceiling by the chain lug on top of the sphere.[1] Aerial connections are 300-ohm screw ("fork") terminals for VHF and UHF.[3]
