The Sony PVM-1354Q is a 13-inch multi-standard professional video monitor introduced in 1994.[1] It shares a manual and most of its design with the 19-inch PVM-1954Q and the lower-resolution 13-inch PVM-1351Q.[2]
The monitor uses an HR (High Resolution) Trinitron tube — Sony part M34KBE20X with a 0.25 mm aperture grille pitch[1] — rated at more than 600 TV lines at the centre of the picture and coated with SMPTE-C phosphor, making it suitable for critical colour work.[2] Colour temperature offers two fixed presets plus a USER setting adjustable from 3200 K to 10000 K, factory set to 6500 K.[2] Video bandwidth is 6.0 MHz (−3 dB) on the composite input and 10.0 MHz on RGB.[2]
Colour system selection is automatic across PAL, SECAM, NTSC and NTSC 4.43.[2] An NTSC comb filter suppresses cross-colour, and a beam current feedback circuit holds white balance stable as content changes.[2]
The PVM-1354Q is generally regarded as the precursor to the M-series PVMs and is often preferred over them because its power supply is less failure-prone.[1]
Features
Front-panel controls include blue-only mode for chroma and phase setup, underscan, horizontal/vertical delay for checking sync, an external sync selector, and automatic degaussing at power-on plus a manual DEGAUSS button.[2] On-screen menus cover colour temperature, chroma setup and other adjustments in five languages.[2]
Every input is a loop-through pair. The 75-ohm termination on an input is applied internally and released automatically the moment a cable is plugged into the matching output connector, so no termination switches or plug-in terminators are needed.[2]
The RGB/COMPONENT BNC trio accepts either analog RGB or Betacam-style R-Y/Y/B-Y component signals, selected on the front panel. With the EXT SYNC selector off, the monitor syncs to the green/Y channel; with it on, it locks to a reference fed into the separate EXT SYNC IN connector.[2]
A 20-pin REMOTE connector drives the front-panel tally lamp from a control console or special-effects generator and can also carry a remote controller.[2] An optional SDI kit adds a serial digital input, raising power consumption from about 90 W to about 99 W.[2] With an MB-502B bracket the monitor mounts in a standard EIA 19-inch rack.[2]
