Description
The Sony VP-7030 is a U-matic player classified as a "Type 7" or "Series 7" unit, the equivalent of the VP-5030 with advanced addressing features. It plays back PAL, SECAM, and NTSC 4.43 colour tapes with SP (Superior Performance) mode support providing 300-line horizontal resolution. Note that it plays NTSC 4.43 (a PAL-region conversion format) but does not support native NTSC 3.58 playback — this is a PAL-market machine.
In addition to standard U-matic playback features, the VP-7030 incorporates Frame Code, an absolute address code system that allows random access and external computer control via an optional RS-232C interface board (BKU-701). These capabilities expand video applications for programmed operation, interactive training systems, and point-of-information displays. The unit is 4 rack units high and can be rack-mounted in a standard 19" EIA rack. Optional accessories include the RM-580 remote control for variable-speed jog/shuttle operation and the BKU-702 interface board for 33-pin parallel remote control.
