Service Mode

Entering Service Mode

To enter service mode, follow this sequence while the TV is in standby (power off):

Press DISPLAY on the remote
Press 5 on the remote
Press VOLUME + on the remote
Press POWER on the remote

Each button must be pressed within one second of the previous button. The service mode display will appear on screen showing adjustment categories and values.

Important Notes

Always record original values before making changes
Only adjust settings if you understand their function
Some adjustments are critical for proper operation and safety
After replacing certain components (especially deflection or high voltage related), specific adjustments must be performed
The service mode is separate from the self-diagnostic mode

Service Mode Display

When service mode is active, the screen displays:

Mode - Current adjustment mode (e.g., \"service\")
Category - Current category (e.g., \"defl\", \"video\", \"audio\")
Item - Current adjustment item name
Item Data - Current value for the selected item
Signal Type - Current video signal type (e.g., \"ntsc\")

Navigation Controls

Remote Control Functions

1 or 4 - Select different adjustment items (move up/down through items)
3 or 6 - Change the data value (increase/decrease the current value)
MUTING then ENTER - Save changes to memory (LED turns green then red)
8 then ENTER - Initialize/reset current category to default values
0 - Not used for service adjustments
POWER (off then on) - Exit service mode

Memory Operations

Saving Adjustments

After making any adjustment:

Press MUTING (the status indicator will turn green)
Press ENTER (the indicator will turn red confirming the write)

The display will show \"write\" when the memory operation is in progress.

Initializing Settings

To reset a category to factory defaults:

Navigate to the desired category
Press 8
Press ENTER

This should be done when adjusting IDs 0-6 or when replacing IC002 (memory chip).

Verifying Saved Settings

To confirm adjustments were saved properly:

Unplug the AC power cord
Plug the power cord back in
Re-enter service mode
Navigate to the adjusted items to verify the values were retained

Exiting Service Mode

Turn off the TV using the power button on either the remote control or the main unit. The TV will exit service mode and return to normal operation.

Adjustment Categories

The service mode contains multiple categories of adjustments:

DEF (Deflection) - Geometry adjustments (H/V size, position, linearity, etc.)
16:9 - Wide mode adjustments
VP1 - Video processor settings (color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, AKB)
VP2 - Additional video processing (VM, color killer, aperture, gamma)
VIVID/STD/MOVIE/SPORTS - Picture mode presets
Y - Y/C separation settings
C - Chroma decoder settings
RGB - RGB drive and cutoff adjustments
DEFD - Additional deflection parameters
OTHER - Miscellaneous settings
OSD - On-screen display settings
S/W AKB - Software auto kinescope bias
AUDIO - Audio processor settings
MICRO - Microprocessor settings
FEATURE - Feature ID settings

Self-Diagnostic Mode

The unit also has a separate self-diagnostic function (see the Self-Diagnostic section for details on accessing error codes and diagnostic information).
