Description

The Philips 32PW9551 is a 32-inch widescreen CRT television from the Philips Cineos product line, released in 2006. Marketed as "HD Prepared," it was one of the last CRT televisions produced with native high-definition input support, accepting signals up to 1080i via its HDMI and component video connections.

The set features Philips' Pixel Plus image processing, which increases the effective number of lines and pixels rendered on screen for improved detail and depth perception. It also includes 100Hz Digital Scan technology to eliminate visible field flicker, along with a suite of picture enhancement technologies including Active Control with ambient light sensor, Dynamic Auto Focus, Dynamic Noise Reduction, 3D Comb Filter, Progressive Scan, and edge smoothing.

The 32PW9551 uses a "Real Flat" picture tube, offering a flatter screen surface than conventional CRTs for reduced reflections and a wider effective viewing angle. Supported video input formats include 576i/576p at 50Hz, 480i/480p at 60Hz, 720p at 50/60Hz, and 1080i at 50/60Hz. Philips designated it "HD Prepared" rather than "HD Ready" because the CRT tube does not meet the HD Ready specification requirement of a minimum 720 lines of fixed resolution. Despite this, user reports noted visible improvement with HD sources.

Audio is provided by a stereo speaker system rated at 2 × 10W with NICAM Stereo decoding and Virtual Dolby Surround processing. The on-screen display supports 21 European languages. Screen format adjustment options include 4:3, Superwide, Widescreen, Zoom 14:9, Zoom 16:9, and Subtitle Zoom.

The cabinet is finished in a two-tone black and silver frost color scheme. At 50 kg, it is a substantial set requiring a sturdy stand or surface.
