Description

The Philips 28PW9551 is a 28-inch widescreen CRT television from the Philips Cineos product line, released in 2006. It is the smaller sibling of the Philips 32PW9551, sharing the same feature set and connectivity in a more compact 28-inch form factor. Like the 32-inch model, it was marketed as "HD Prepared," accepting high-definition signals up to 1080i via its HDMI and component video inputs.

The set features Philips' Pixel Plus image processing for increased effective resolution and detail, along with 100Hz Digital Scan to eliminate visible field flicker. Additional picture enhancement technologies include Active Control with ambient light sensor, Dynamic Noise Reduction, 3D Comb Filter, Progressive Scan, edge smoothing, and Scan Velocity Modulation (Scavem).

The 28PW9551 uses a "Real Flat" picture tube with anti-reflection treatment, providing a flatter screen surface for reduced glare and a wider effective viewing angle. Supported video input formats include 576p at 50Hz, 480p at 60Hz, 720p at 50/60Hz, and 1080i at 50/60Hz. As with the 32-inch model, Philips designated it "HD Prepared" rather than "HD Ready" because the CRT tube does not meet the HD Ready specification's minimum fixed resolution requirement.

Audio is provided by a stereo speaker system rated at 2 × 10W (20W PMPO) with NICAM Stereo decoding and Virtual Dolby Surround processing. The set includes 1200-page Smart Text teletext with dual-screen viewing capability. Screen format adjustment options include 4:3, Superwide, Widescreen, Zoom 14:9, Zoom 16:9, and Subtitle Zoom.

The cabinet is finished in Silver Frost. At 37 kg, it is significantly lighter than the 32-inch model. An optional matching stand (ST289520/ZF) was available separately.
