|description=The Sony SL-3000 was Sony's first portable Betamax recorder, based on the Japanese SL-3100 (late 1978). The NTSC version (SL-3000) was released in early 1979 for the American market, paired with the HVC-1000 camera and TT-3000 tuner/timer unit for home use. The PAL version (SL-3000E) followed in early 1980 for the European market, intended to interface with Sony PAL cameras HVC-2000P and HVC-2010P. The SL-3000 was remarkably compact and could be operated in either horizontal or vertical position. It incorporated a dew sensor, automatic video and audio level controls for non-professional operators, an anti-rolling system for stable picture recordings, and a battery protection circuit that stopped the machine when voltage fell below 10.8V. It operated from 12V DC, either from battery packs or the companion TT-3000 tuner/timer's power supply. The SL-3000 remained in production until the SL-F1 portable replaced it.
