The Sony PVM-1342Q is a 13-inch NTSC Trinitron professional video monitor. It is the mid-range member of a four-model family — the PVM-1340, PVM-1341, PVM-1342Q and PVM-1344Q — that shares a single operating manual, and it is built on chassis SCC-C25A-A for the US and Canadian markets.[1][2]
The picture tube is a Super Fine Pitch Trinitron (Sony part M34KBE20X) with a 0.25 mm aperture grille pitch, giving more than 600 TV lines of horizontal resolution at the centre of the screen; as a character display it resolves up to 2,000 characters (80 characters × 25 lines).[1] Unlike the P-22 tube in the PVM-1341 and PVM-1340, the 1342Q's tube uses SMPTE-C American-standard phosphors, with chromaticity coordinates of R (0.630, 0.340), G (0.310, 0.595) and B (0.155, 0.070) to a tolerance of ±0.01.[1] Colour temperature is switchable between 6,500 K and 9,300 K (+8 MPCD) by a rear-panel COLOR TEMP selector.[2]
Video bandwidth is more than 7 MHz (−3 dB) on the composite line inputs, more than 8 MHz on Y/C, and more than 9 MHz on analog RGB.[1] The comb filter used on NTSC composite gives 3.58 MHz chrominance subcarrier attenuation of less than −30 dB, while a trap handles 4.43 MHz at less than −36 dB.[1] Sync is a fixed-frequency 15 kHz design with an AFC time constant of 1 ms and a line pull range of ±500 Hz horizontally and 8 Hz vertically, so it is not a multisync monitor.[2]
Features
Picture adjustment uses light-touch buttons rather than rotary controls: APERTURE, BRIGHT, CHROMA, PHASE, CONTRAST and VOLUME each have up/down buttons whose settings are held in memory, and a RESET button returns aperture, brightness, chroma, phase and contrast to the factory levels.[2] An automatic white balance circuit compensates for beam and secular distortion of the cathode-ray tube so that the same white is reproduced over the life of the monitor.[1]
The monitor is normally 7% overscanned; the UNDERSCAN button switches to a 3% underscan of the CRT effective screen area so that all four corners of the raster can be inspected.[2] An H-V DELAY button shifts the picture to expose the horizontal and vertical blanking intervals, and BLUE ONLY drives all three guns from the blue signal to produce an apparent monochrome display for chroma and phase adjustment.[2] Convergence is specified at 0.6 mm in the central area and 0.8 mm at the periphery.[1]
CTRL S in and out minijacks let one Remote Commander drive several monitors, or a monitor follow a VCR's control-S output.[2] All BNC inputs terminate automatically into 75 ohms, releasing the termination when a cable is plugged into the corresponding loop-through output.[2]
A single 0.6 W mono speaker is fitted.[1]
