The Sony KV-34XBR910 is a 34-inch 16:9 FD Trinitron WEGA high-definition television monitor, the flagship of Sony's XBR direct-view line for 2003, introduced at an MSRP of $2,499. It shares the DA-4 chassis and its documentation with the 30-inch KV-30XBR910.

The set displays 480i, 480p, and 1080i, and also accepts 720p sources on its HD inputs (converted internally). Its Super Fine Pitch aperture-grille CRT was created specifically for high-resolution sources, pairing a finer grille with a new electron gun and high-intensity phosphors; the 34-inch visible picture comes from a 36-inch tube.

Features

Headline processing features include DRC (Digital Reality Creation) MultiFunction with selectable interlaced, progressive, or CineMotion output and three custom "palettes"; CineMotion reverse 3-2 pulldown for film-based sources; ClearEdge VM velocity modulation; and an "HD Detailer" wideband video amplifier. Twin View (Multi-Image Driver MID-X) shows two sources side by side — the left window handles 1080i/720p/480p, the right standard-definition only. A Memory Stick slot plays JPEG photos and MPEG-1 clips on screen, and Steady Sound levels volume across programs.

The RF tuner is NTSC only (VHF 2–13, UHF 14–69, CATV 1–125) — HD broadcasts require an external ATSC or cable/satellite receiver feeding the component or DVI-HDTV inputs. The DVI-HDTV input (Video 7) carries HDCP copy protection, is EIA-861 compliant, and per Sony "is not intended for use with personal computers." The supplied remote is the RM-Y188.
