Tool-assisted editing is encouraged - but certainly not required. I (Arclight) personally use MediaWiki-MCP-Server with Claude. These are the MCP instructions that I use for editing as an example.

To differentiate tool-assisted edits from human edits, we ask that you create a separate user account with "-Bot" at the end of the name. For example, if your username is Foo, you might name your bot "Foo-Bot". Never make tool-assisted edits from your human account!

Then,

  1. Go to Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration
  2. Register an OAuth 2.0 owner-only consumer with the necessary grants
  3. Copy the consumer key and secret into their MCP connector configuration
  4. Start editing!
