The Sony HDM-1730 is a 17-inch 16:9 professional CRT color monitor designed for use with Sony's High Definition Video System (HDVS). It features a Super Fine Pitch Trinitron tube with 0.31 mm phosphor trio pitch and SMPTE standard phosphor. The HDM-1730E is the European market variant of the same model.

The monitor accepts G, B, R/Y, Pb, Pr analog HD signals via BNC with loop-through, and supports tri-level sync, bi-level sync, or HD/VD sync. It supports 525-line non-interlaced signal (IDTV decoder output) input. H Delay, V Delay, and Underscan facilities are provided for monitoring and evaluating camera and VTR signals. A beam detecting circuit stabilizes black level and color temperature, and 15 independent convergence adjustment sections are included. Seven types of test signals are incorporated. The HDM-1730 is mountable in a standard EIA 19-inch rack.
