Overview
The JVC VM-R190SU is a 19-inch broadcast color video monitor announced on September 18, 1987 (originally as the VM-R190U). It was designed for professional use with JVC's MII recording format and features multi-format input capability for composite, RGB analog, RGB TTL, S-VHS (Y/C), and Y/R-Y/B-Y component signals.[1]
The monitor uses a 19-inch in-line gun CRT with a tri-dot pitch of 0.4mm, achieving more than 600 TV lines of horizontal resolution. A comb filter minimizes cross-color distortion, and a notch filter reduces horizontal "dot interference" from video signals. Maximum power consumption is 100 watts.[2]
Connectivity is extensive. Two composite video inputs are provided (BNC and 8-pin VTR connector) at 1.0Vp-p with bridged output capability. RGB analog inputs use BNC connectors at 0.7Vp-p with bridged output. An RGB TTL input via 9-pin D-sub connector supports IBM PC CGA 8/16 color mode, selectable via a front-panel TTL/Analog switch. Component video is accepted on three separate interfaces: a 12-pin MII connector, a 12-pin Betacam connector, and BNC connectors for Y/R-Y/B-Y signals. External sync is provided on BNC (1–4Vp-p) with bridged output, and sync on green is also supported.[3][2]
Professional monitoring features include pulse cross display (1/4 horizontal, 1/2 vertical shift), underscan/overscan switching, a tally lamp, and full remote control of input selection, scan switching, sync mode, color/monochrome switching, and tally activation. Additional controls include a horizontal AFC select switch (Fast/Slow) and a disc switch (Auto/50Hz/60Hz). The unit measures 16-1/2"W × 17-1/2"H × 18-5/8"D, is housed in a rugged metal cabinet, and is mountable in a standard EIA 19" equipment rack.[3][2] The MSRP was $2,093.
