The JVC TM-1600SU is a 16-inch multistandard colour video monitor for professional use, the smaller of a pair with the 20-inch TM-2000SU with which it shares an instruction manual.[1]
The picture tube is a 16-inch flat-square type with 90-degree deflection, an in-line gun and a vertical line trio (slot mask) with a 0.42 mm phosphor stripe pitch — a finer pitch than the 0.69 mm of the 20-inch model, and correspondingly a higher rated resolution of 550 TV lines or more in Y/C input mode against the TM-2000SU's 450.[1] The effective screen measures 330 × 250 mm with a 410 mm (16¼-inch) diagonal.[1]
The monitor decodes PAL and NTSC (3.58) and is a fixed-frequency 15 kHz design, scanning at 15.734 kHz / 59.94 Hz for NTSC and 15.625 kHz / 50 Hz for PAL.[1]

Both video inputs are provided in pairs of connectors for bridge (loop-through) connection with automatic termination: VIDEO A takes composite on two BNCs, and VIDEO B takes either composite on two BNCs or Y/C-separated video on two 4-pin mini-DIN connectors. Y is 1.0 V p-p into 75 ohms and C is 0.286 V p-p for NTSC or 0.3 V p-p for PAL.[1] Audio arrives as monaural on paired RCA jacks at 0.5 V RMS into high impedance for each input group, and a pair of RCA REMOTE jacks allows external control, also bridgeable.[1]
Front-panel controls are a button-and-menu arrangement rather than rotary pots: PHASE, CHROMA, BRIGHT and CONTRAST buttons each select a parameter that is then set with the VOLUME/SELECT buttons, and pressing PHASE while holding MENU opens a SET-UP MENU. Separate INPUT SELECT buttons choose VIDEO A, VIDEO B composite and VIDEO B Y/C, each with its own green indicator.[1]
Sound is reproduced through a single 8 cm round 8-ohm speaker driven at 1 W. The monitor runs from 120 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz drawing 0.6 A, measures 395 × 334 × 420.5 mm and weighs 17.2 kg.[1]
